Joseph Pilates developed Pilates in the early 20th century. This method of physical movement focusses on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. It is a series of non-impact exercises using focussed breathing methods. Pilates is a fantastic form of general fitness and well-being. It can support professional sports, physical rehabilitation after injury and also help prevent injuries. It is more than just a physical exercise, and can radically enhance mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Pilates suits anybody. The exercises can be adapted to allow various fitness levels, body types and those with health issues. Suitable for 20-80 year olds, elite athletes and those requiring rehabilitation.
Sara-Jane started her career as a dancer. Having had a successful and exciting 8 years performing she moved back to Bath. Sara-Jane has taught dance to children until recently and in 2009 retrained as a pilates instructor at The Pilates Institute in London. Regularly updating her knowledge, Sara-jane now runs classes from the FortyFields studio.

If you are new to Pilates this is the best way to learn. It gives you the chance to learn about how your body moves. Your instructor takes your case history and you will then be able to discuss any specific issues and talk about your exercise plans.
Group Matwork Classes
These classes are on a mat and mainly floor based in classes of up to 6. These small classes allow your instructor to give individual corrections.
